FIRST PROJECT: SHOTS QUIZ

For this project, students were supposed to compose a production with 15 different specific types of shots. 10 shots were mandatory while the other 5 were completely up to the creators of the story. We were then supposed to plan out all the shots in a list and once approved by our instructor, my partner and I began production!

We decided that our story would be about a Minecraft cow keychain named Gilbert (formerly Jeb_) overcoming a devastating breakup with his partner, Ski Bear, another keychain. We agreed that for a story like this, emotion would have to be conveyed clearly. We did this through certain shots, such as close ups and extreme close ups, but also by adding facial expressions like tears, furrowed eye brows, and floating hearts to the characters. Both of these combined heavily assisted in conveying clear emotion in this story of facing heartbreak. For some of the other scenes, we used certain types of shots to convey the status of Gilbert's past relationship. For example, in the first scene a two shot was used, which demonstrated the distance in the character's relationship, and in the second to last scene, another two shot was used to show that there is no longer any kind of connection in the relationship.

I think what we did well was the overall quality of the pictures and shot choices. The photos turned out great and are clear to decipher, and the selection of shots did good in communicating the context of the scene and overall story of the production. What we could've improved on were the framing of some of the shots. As we were finishing our project, time in class was thin, so my partner and I did the last few shots quickly. I think that with more time, our last few scenes could have had better angle and composition.
