 LETS GOOOOOOO EVERYBODYYYYY LETS GOOOO IT'S FRI(YAY) IT'S ALMOST THE END OF QUARTER 3 AND IT'S SPRING TIME LETS GOOOOOOO i also have concert band MPA today which should be super duper fun I can't wait to like be like all like "doot doot" on my big long yellow instrument for like 3 hours :D 

Before I am able to go off on my band endeavors though, I had to attend my classes! Cause I'm only a second semester junior! NOT a senior! I can't skip whole days! My goodness sometimes only sometimes do I wish I was a senior! That's next year's business though! Then I can skip whole days! Should be a piece of cake by then! HELP ME

Today in my lovely 6th period, AICE Media Studies A level, we were tasked by Tstok to group up in assigned tables and interact with each other for about 45 minutes! And now I'm supposed to interact with YOU guys all about it and what went down with each one of our presentations! LETS GOOO WAHOO WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

EMI TALKS TO OTHER HUMANS ABOUT SILLY DEMON MOVIE: A SUPER EPIC SAGA OF SUPER EPICNESS

For this lovely meeting, I was grouped up with peers, Dani, Adriana, Aneesa, Vicky, Mariana, and Fabiana :D 

BAHAHHAHA SO MANY 'ANA'S that was genuinely the funniest move tstok could have ever pulled. 

ALRIGHTY DIVE IN TIME!

1. Emi (emi) (e-mi) (thats me :D)

Genre: Dark Comedy

Because of my super awesome blog and its insane absurdity, I got my 15 minutes of fame throughout the beginning of this group meeting after Tstok pointed it out :D it was actually pretty awesome seeing my classmates looking at my blog and being all like "LMAOOO????" I am genuinely so proud of this blog and how much pure personality I put into it all day everyday so that was just the greatest honor seeing others enjoying it :]] 

After my spotlight, my group was like "u wanna go first :D" and I was like "yeah bet :DD" So then I presented everything that we had going on in our super awesome project! Here's what's up!

I began my presentation by telling my group all about the plot I had going on. I explained to them that my film was going to be all about this girl named Otto looking for power and going to this guy Annie Christopher who's totally not the devil himself disguised :D The entirety of the film is Otto fulfilling each one of Annie's tasks for her promised power such as handing out flyers, sticking them around every where, making trashy altars, etc. By the end of the film, however, Otto gets more unhinged and begins losing herself to the deal and to the devil, even going as far as sacrificing her sister and never actually receiving the power she was promised, because she literally lost her soul.

This entire struggle for religious power was ultimately worthless for Otto because of that loss and that's basically the message that Joaquin, Andrew, and I are looking to convey. The film will be a critique on power struggles especially in terms of religion since it has been used as an excuse to exert power over others for years in human history, therefore making it a very real issue that deserves some recognition and critique within the media and, in this case, from 3 really weird unconventional teenagers :D

After spitting my bars on the plot, I began to spit my bars on my concerns and got some pretty good suggestions from my fellow peers :] I first expressed my worries about our locations and where we could possibly film, especially for the end of our production. My group suggested that for the ending, we head over to Markham Park because it has that really cool foresty, non Weston looking mystique and vibe going on that could really support our film and its tone at the climax. Adriana also added on that there's a bridge in Markham chuck filled with graffiti that could also work wonders! I am for sure taking these suggestions into consideration because for this whole time we've been planning, I've always been imagining the climax taking place in a forest of some sorts, or anywhere outside that isn't too bright, so it's perfect if everyone in my group ends up agreeing on it :]

Another concern that I expressed to my group had to do with some of the violence that we plan on implementing into our short film. The last time Joaquin, Andrew  and I talked about plot, we discussed the possibility of having 3 deaths put into the film but my group suggested that we instead just have one death because having 3 might be a little too much for a 5 minute narrative piece. This I totally understand and highkey agree with. The next time my project group have a discussion about our plot which will be very soon most likely over call, I'll suggest toning down the violence a tad since not only does it have the possibility of being hard to pull off, we also should spend our time more on developing Otto's character through other means annddd also having 1 significant death at the end will really make Otto's loss of humanity stand out and be a good ending point for our piece :] We'll see where things go from here but I'm really going to take the suggestions from my group into good consideration.

2. Adriana

Up next was Adriana who presented to us her general idea that she has so far for her short film! She's making a comedy with David about this guy who uses a penny to teleport places to do good things but every time he does, something backfires and it's shown in a super duper funny way and stuff :D David is going to be starring as the main character while Adriana will handle some camera work and most of the editing. She expressed a couple concerns on said editing and how she will make precise cuts to really make the teleportation effect pop and come to live in a way that makes sense. As a solution to this, she told us that she's gonna watch a couple of tutorials online to get some good practice in so she's able to edit her film successfully which I 100000% respect >:D Editings hard and it's even harder when you're making a short about teleportation, something that requires some pretty good post prod!

Apart from that, Adriana also has some concerns with the scheduling since David has been very busy with Mamma Mia and other theater endeavors and will be out of town for spring break, creating more difficulty and less time for them to film.With this in mind, I checked out David's blog out of curiosity, and found that he's thinking of filming some scenes in the places he'll be at during spring break which is a pretty snazzy idea :D Getting some good shots from London and Madrid sounds AWESOME. 

The group and I really liked the idea that Adriana and her partner had going on so far and suggested that she could maybe end the film with the main character completing a kind act but when he tries to teleport again he drops the penny down a drain or a sewer which could be quite a silly ending and end the film from where it started, as this is a comedy and it doesn't have to be too serious :D I am very much looking forward to checking out this short film once it's done, I've been intrigued the most by this one's concept. Like, teleporting with a PENNY? Goofy haha funny genre?? Possibly shooting in EUROPE??? I'M SAT!!

3. Aneesa

Genre: Dark comedy

Aneesa went up next right after Adriana and started telling us about what she had so far :D She's going to be working with Zach, Quinn, and Nico on a dark comedy short film all about a camera focusing on one person but then it "falls in love" or becomes more focused on another person. Her piece will be HEAVY on breaking the fourth wall and will be super aware of itself which I think is a really cool concept that can be pulled off if planned out well. 

At first, Aneesa's group wanted to make a film revolving around supernatural beings and such but that got scrapped while she was away in Arizona and this plot became the new idea, hence why she felt a little bit unsure of the idea and how exactly they will execute it. She's planning on meeting up with her group this coming weekend to write out a script and develop a fleshed out story to make things a little easier to figure out and see if their idea will be able to work :D The group gave her a couple useful suggestions in terms of her plot and made it easier to imagine in my opinion. Having a spotlight follow around any character that the camera is focusing on, having the mic of the main character turn off when the camera goes to another subject, making the characters actors and the film take place in a studio during a casting call, and giving context to said studio setting are great aspects that Aneesa can implement into her film to flesh some things out and be able to make it understandable for the viewers :DDD

Out of everybody in the group, this film idea was definitely the one that intrigued me the most! I'll be one of their very first viewers on the inevitable day of April 10th >:D As scared as I am for that date, I am also insanely excited to see everybody's projects along with my own >:DD BOOYAHHHH

4. Vicky

Genre: Coming of age

Next after Aneesa was Vicky who presented her coming of age film that she's working on with Renn and Kenna :D She expressed to us that they all wanted to create something that they could resonate and connect with as they themselves are teenagers going through a time in life where everything is constantly changing, especially since they are going to be adults soon and are expected to get ready for such a thing. Hey look at that! I'm on the exact same boat and so is literally everybody in my life who isn't legally an adult right now! Holy smokes this film is going to hit if done well!! 

The general message that Vicky and her team are going to communicate through their piece is "Even through fears and stress, you keep growing" which is definitely a theme that is great to work around for a coming of age film. 

The plot will revolve around a girl who likes plants and after she receives a seed (probably from a friend who will be significant), she plants it and takes really good care of it the first couple of weeks. As time goes on, however, the protags life begins to get very stressful and the plant begins to wilt because she isn't physically or emotionally able to care for it. Weeks and weeks pass which is shown on the protags weekly calendar also tracking down the plant's growth (me thinks) and the climax of all of this will likely be a friendship breakup (with the friend that gave her the plant in the beginning woah full circle moment) but despite everything, the plant the protag planted is still shown to be growing even though an important relationship from her life just got absolutely obliterated from the test of adolescence! This plant metaphor is really cool and I can't wait to see how Vicky's group will pull it off and execute it in a supa awesome, meaningful way :D

 Some concerns that Vicky had while presenting to us had to do with the plot and actors and the plant itself. There's still more plot points for her to flesh out with her film along with finding 2 actors to play the protag and her friend but definitely the most significant worry is the plant and how they are going to get one and show it growing, cause unfortunately real plants don't grow that fast!
I'm not a plant person but I do wish that was the case so I could see flowers bloom in real time right in front of me do you know how cool that would be?? A girl could only dream! 

For this concern, the group suggested that Vicky should buy 3 plants, one short, one medium, and one large, to replace whenever needed for the lovely camera and show its growth! This was a great solution, and shouldn't cost much :D Aneesa also suggested that the short film ends with a voice over of the protag touching on the plant metaphor to add some more context to it and make it more understandable to audiences which could really add a whole ton of sentimental value if written well.

I think this film idea is great and super meaningful to an audience of a bunch of teenagers also making silly movies. I'm already envisioning myself watching it when it's time to critique portfolios and bawling :D I normally ball but this time I will BAWLLLLL

5. Mariana

Genre: Drama

Upppp next we had Mariana! PERIOD 8 GANG RISE UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Mariana is doing a drama short film and working along with Audrey to bring it to life :D Her piece will be about this boy that loses his sister. She isn't so sure how said boy will loose his sister but the vision for sure is there and I'm loving it :DDD

The boy is super duper party hardy and one day decides to take his sister to a party. After that night, they both get into a huge argument and after it the sister leaves and uh maybe dies (?) The short film will be narrated by the boy while he is working through his first therapy session which I think is actually a really cool idea :D A film running purely on flashbacks can be pretty interesting if pulled off right! Mariana and Audrey are still figuring out how to kill off the sister and are debating between killing her or making her go missing but since they would like to lean more on drama instead of mystery and deal with the themes of grief, they are likely going to kill off the sister YAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The group enjoyed what Mariana had in mind for her film so far and we gave her some suggestions to help her out develop plot lines and characters. The group suggested that the sister's death be super quick instead of having caused by something chronic or long term like cancer since that would be much harder to develop in under like 5 minutes duh broo duhhhhh !!!!!1 Along with that we also suggested to Mariana that she should make the sister younger than the boy since that will add a whole ton to his grief since that'll make him be all like "mannnn dude bro I'm such a bad older brother I was supposed to be her role model and stuff mannnn if only I didn't take her to that party and shiii" except make it 10000x more emotional :D

We also told Mariana that if she were to make the boy talk to a therapist and make the whole short film go off of their session, then she should cast an adult for said therapist instead of like a 15 year old to make it make sense! Sometimes I be seeing the youngest looking people alive playing as adults who are supposed to be older than 40 and I'm all like "wha :D" same goes with vice versa! Casting matters people! 

I'll be really looking forward to checking out this film and see how Mariana and Audrey developed the relationship between their protag and his sister ooo the intrigue ooo the drama oooooooooo ooo ooooo emi's invested ooooooo

6. Fabiana

Genre: Psychological thriller

Right after Mariana went Fabiana! LMFAOOOAOAOOA isn't it so funny when two names rhyme perfectly again thank u tstok that was really funny

Fabiana is working alone on a psychological thriller short film about this rich guy with a very nice lavish super duper awesome life with no problems. Thing is though, this dude had a huge accident a year back, killing someone with his car while on the way home. During the present day, he then receives a package that brings him back to what has happened o so long ago. Then, out of pure guilt, the protag cannot help but go to the police station to turn himself in. Fabi has still a lot of plot to flesh out but what she has so far sounds really awesome :] As for suggestions! We recommended Fabi to give additional context to the death of the ran over girl as an intro to the short film, not only showing what happened, but where and when.

 

Fractured (2019)

Fabi then expressed concerns of filming inside the police station since that is where her protag is going to turn himself in and then we said that she could ask and see if they'll let her, even if the chances seem a little iffy. Adriana also suggested that Fabi could only just film the outside of the station and end the scene with the protag putting his hand on the door knob, however since this is a whole short film and not a film opener like last year, Fabi isn't able to end on a cliffhanger, creating an obstacle with her ending. But I'm sure once her entire plot gets fully fleshed out, she'll have an easier time deciding what to do with the police station and such :D 

This film idea reminded some of the people in my group about the 2019 thriller/mystery film "Fractured" which was all about this guy suffering from head injury and struggling to find the difference between imagination and reality. They then suggested that Fabi could make her main guy have some mental issues (schizophrenia) that causes him to blur the line between what's real and what's fake and therefore make one part of him not remember that one time he ran over the girl. To decide which approach will work better, normal guy with dark past vs. schizophrenic guy with dark past, Fabi may write 2 scripts, read them carefully, and make her final verdict on which route to go down on. 

Overall this is a super duper cool sounding short film and I'm pretty curious about how Fabi is going to approach various aspects of her project, like actors, location, art direction, the whole shabang :DD Wahoo!!

7. Dani

DA GOATTTTT 8TH PERIOD GANG ASSEMBLLEEEEEE

Dani was the last (and certainly not least) to go on and present what she had going for her project! She's working with Gabi (marcela) and artist Annie LeMasters to make a super awesome story driven music video come to life since Annie lives all the way in Nashville Tenneesee and can't come down to Florida anytime soon. The song by LeMasters is called "I'll Call you When I Made It" which was said to be under the same vibe of Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo which I already knew after checking out some of the research posts they made on their blog a couple days ago yayyyyyyy :DD The song they are using has a revenge-y, post break up resentment vibe that they would like to embody within their music video.

 Since the chorus of the tune is repeated 3 times though, Dani and Gabi want their piece to not have their visuals repeated so much and instead tell a whole, consistent story through good writing and vibes from the song being utilized :D The story will essentially follow a relationship that starts off happy and healthy at first but then slowly but surely turns more and more toxic as time passes on. This reminded me of Taylor Swift's "All Too Well" short film that came out a while back. I watched it just recently and thought it was absolutely amazing, all the way from the story down to the acting. If this is what Dani and Gabi are mainly inspired by, I am absolutely sat !!! Along with the general plot they have so far, Dani also told us that she's going for a sunset kind of vibe with the visual/art direction of her music vid and was planning to film during sundown at the beach with Gabi later today which I thought was AWEEESOMEE ! Soon after Dani said she was going to try to film some parts during sundown though, Aneesa chimed in and suggested that she should instead try to film at sunrise to get some more time on her hands, since the sunsets here can be pretty short, lasting only about 15-20 minutes I would say. Waking up early is a pretty tedious task, but if it means getting some really really beautiful shots I'd definitely consider it to be very worth it :] 

I am definitely really looking forward to checking out this music video once it's out and open and public to the great world on the great day of April 10th! I adore music vids and am absolutely such a huge fan of the aesthetic Dani and Gabi have cooked up for their piece so far mannn I already know I'm gonna eat it up >:DD
